Current Work 
This is a modification to a very popular (and inexpensive) gamer joystick. It was designed for arcade games and, therefore, is very robust, but it was also designed for just four microswitches. I wanted a continuous control. So this modification replaces the PCB and actuator inside the joystick with an inductive proximity detector. Output is USB.
Goals for this design included minimum width, other specific dimensional constraints, and a metal plunger that moves horizontally over an inductive sensor. The lever is spring loaded in both directions, returning reliably to center. The tube and its internal components (other than the shaft itself) are made from COTS parts.
These are two force sensing resistors with LED bar indicator that shine through a Plexiglas lens.
This is the above devices mounted in a left cheek block for a synth.
